The name Sonamarg translates to 'Meadow of Gold', a reference to the golden glow that covers its vast grasslands during summer. In ancient times, Sonamarg was an important stop along trade routes connecting Kashmir with regions beyond the Himalayas. Merchants traveling through mountain passes would rest here before continuing their journeys. Today, Sonamarg is known for its breathtaking landscapes, alpine meadows and adventure activities. The region serves as the starting point for several famous treks and is a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers. During summer, the valley is filled with colorful flowers, while winter transforms it into a snowy wonderland.
