Gurez Valley

Gurez Valley

Gurez Valley is a remote and breathtaking valley known for its untouched beauty, traditional culture and dramatic mountain scenery.

History & Overview

Situated near the Line of Control in northern Kashmir, Gurez Valley remained isolated for much of its history because of heavy snowfall and difficult mountain passes. The valley lies along the ancient Silk Route and was once an important trade corridor connecting Kashmir with Central Asia. Gurez is home to the Dard-Shina community, whose culture, language and traditions have been preserved for generations. The valley is famous for its pristine rivers, green landscapes and the iconic Habba Khatoon Peak, named after the legendary Kashmiri poetess. In recent years, improved infrastructure has made Gurez more accessible, allowing travelers to explore one of Kashmir’s most untouched destinations while experiencing its unique heritage and natural beauty.
